Vaginism The NHS offer vaginal dilation treatment to help with women with tight vaginas / pelvic floors or who may experience painful penetration or wish to prepare their bodies for natural childbirth to avoid tearing or the need for an episiotomy. The problem with these treatments is they are often painful. The Vagina is designed as a one-way valve for things to come out and not go in. In order for a vagina to be receptive to penetration, arousal leads to relaxation, release of lubricant and increased blood flow which softens the vaginal wall to help penetration and impact go from being painful to pleasurable. Your Doctor will never arouse you before vaginal dilation, which can result in treatment being painful, or at least uncomfortable. Our approach is holistic, following the body’s natural lead: we combine both mental and physical solutions to relax and arouse your body to be receptive to entry before attempting any form of dilation. We can then use fingers, toys or tools like a speculum to dilate the vagina, which is then often pleasurable rather than painful and results in achieving a greater dilation than without the arousal. Some women have tight pelvic floors due to previous traumas, so tightness can be as a result of both physical and mental components. We partner with a qualified female hypnotherapist who can provide hypnosis prior to the session to help alleviate and treat the psychological component. It can help to relax your body and pelvic floor which can help improve the efficacy of the physical vaginal dilation treatment.
